So, how do you choose and buy the right computer for you? First, you must decide what type of computer that you want and need. What kind of computer will fit your personal and/or business needs as well as your pocketbook? There are many brands on the market today that can perform admirably, butperformance is only one consideration. Make sure that whatever computer you choose is upgradable too. You need to consider parts and service too. Because, at some time or another, your machine is going to break down and you are going to need to fix it or have it fixed. Also, you are going to need to upgrade your computer system and you will need to be able to purchase the necessary parts. Unless you can do the upgrade yourself, you will need a qualified technician to do the service too.

A basic computer package differs, but it is usually the computer, a monitor, a keyboard, and a mouse. The computer will probably have a CD-Rom drive and at least one floppy drive. Some computers have ZIP Drives too. These are essential if you are planning on storing alot of information outside of your hard drive. One ZIP diskette has the capability of storing as much information as several regular floppy diskettes.

The computer you choose will need to have a sufficient amount of memory on it. It will also need the power to run whatever programs you choose. The Pentium chips available in computers today are very popular as they have the capability to run any type of program you could possibly want, as well as operate the system as fast as you want it to go. They come in different sizes as well as different price ranges. Be prepared to spend the money if you choose a computer with a Pentium chip.

Along with decidingon what type of processor you will need, you will also need to consider the hard drive space, or memory available. If the computer you choose does not have enough memory on it, you may not be able to run the software that you want.

Another consideration is the computer's modem. Will you use a modem? Many people are on-line in this day and age. If you need a modem, make sure that the computer you choose has a fast enough modem in it to handle your needs.
